It must be nice to have winter and summer seasonal homes. While I've been battened down for a long bleak cold winter, our ospreys have been off to a warmer clime. They've now returned to the nest box on top of the Narrows dam. They've been spotted intermittently for about two weeks, both alone and together. Mating has been observed. They've been there a lot this weekend, and are bringing in twigs and diligently fixing up the nest. There should be eggs soon. I spend entirely too much time watching this!
For out-of-towners, this nest box is on top of the dam at Narrows Reservoir, also called Badin Lake, near Badin NC on the Yadkin River. The camera is courtesy of Alcoa, who owns and operates the hydroelectric facility. I think they enjoy it as much as we do, though.
